Oriental Brown Brass Hardware Drawers Accent Storage Cabinet GB115S
This handsome late Joseon-period style Korean cabinet, known as a nong (농), stands as a refined example of traditional domestic furniture from the 19th century. Crafted from richly figured keyaki (zelkova) wood on the front and sides, its dramatic, swirling grain catches the light like ripples on dark water, while plainer cryptomeria forms the secondary surfaces and interiors. The two-part stacked construction is typical of the form: an upper section with four small drawers above a pair of doors concealing a shelved interior, and a taller lower section with a single broad drawer sliding out from beneath another pair of doors. Heavy hand-forged iron fittings—butterfly hinges, cloud-shaped lock plates, and ornate bail handles—contrast beautifully with the warm, honey-toned wood, their dark patina speaking of generations of careful use. Brass corner reinforcements and circular face plates add subtle elegance, while the slightly everted top and modest bracket feet give the piece a quiet, dignified presence. With its combination of bold natural figuring, practical storage, and restrained metalwork, this nong embodies the understated sophistication of late Joseon scholarly taste.
