Vintage Chinoiseries Black & Stone Inlay Graphic End Table Nightstand GB140S
This is a beautiful, traditional Chinese black lacquered cabinet featuring striking decorative elements. The cabinet has a rectangular, upright form supported by bracket feet, and the main body is divided into two sections: two small drawers across the top and a double-door cupboard below. The overall surface is finished in a glossy black lacquer, which provides a dramatic contrast for the detailed decoration. Gold painting outlines the drawers and borders with intricate geometric patterns, including a variation of the key or meander motif. The doors of the cupboard are the focal point, adorned with a scene depicting figures in traditional dress, possibly of the Ming or Qing dynasty, rendered in hardstone or mother-of-pearl inlay (a technique known as qian baoli). The figures are engaged in domestic or leisure activities beneath palm-like foliage and birds in flight, set against a delicate gold-painted landscape. When the lower doors are opened, the interior reveals two storage shelves. The hardware, including the drawer pulls and the large central circular backplate and pulls on the main doors, is dark and metallic, complementing the cabinet's antique aesthetic.
