Chinese Ware Brown Black Glaze Graphic Ceramic Tea Bowl Cup Display GB400S
This exquisite Song Dynasty-style Jizhou ware tea bowl features a classic conical form, flaring elegantly from a narrow, unglazed foot to a wide rim. The interior is coated in a rich, matte chocolate-brown glaze that serves as a dramatic backdrop for a central leaf-stencil decoration. This "leaf-mottle" technique, synonymous with the Jizhou kilns of Jiangxi province, involves placing a real mulberry leaf onto the body before firing; as the leaf burns away, it leaves behind a delicate, translucent phantom of its skeletal structure, rendered here in pale ochre and cream tones.
The exterior is equally compelling, showcasing a subtle, low-relief carved dragon motif that winds around the body beneath the glaze. The dragon is depicted amidst swirling clouds, adding a tactile layer of traditional Chinese symbolism to the vessel. The dark, iron-rich glaze breaks slightly over the raised edges of the carving, highlighting the fluid movement of the design. With its grounded earthy palette and the poetic preservation of a single leaf, this bowl exemplifies the sophisticated naturalism and technical ingenuity of medieval Chinese ceramics.
