This "leaf-mottle" technique, synonymous with the Jizhou kilns of Jiangxi province, involves placing a real mulberry leaf onto the body before firing; as the leaf burns away, it leaves behind a delicate, translucent phantom of its skeletal structure, rendered here in pale ochre and cream tones.
