This Chinese ink composite piece features a dark, crackled lacquer finish adorned with finely carved and gilt-highlighted figural scenes across its top surface. The central relief depicts a traditional procession or gathering with multiple figures, intricate architectural elements, and delicate floral motifs. The side panels are framed with carved scrollwork and inscribed with classical Chinese calligraphy in gold characters, while the underside reveals a distinct red lacquer maker's or collector's seal. Supported by gracefully scalloped low feet, the piece exhibits a wonderful aged patina and craftsmanship characteristic of traditional scholar's items or decorative display stands.

The red seal on the underside reads "胡開文製" (Hu Kaiwen Zhi), which identifies it as a product from the famed Hu Kaiwen ink workshop—one of the most historic and legendary Chinese ink-making houses founded during the Qing dynasty.   The inscription visible on the side panel further connects to traditional ink naming conventions and scholarly verse, referencing themes often found on classical Chinese ink cakes and scholar's studio pieces. While the piece itself is fashioned as a carved wood display stand or scholar's rest, the maker's mark points directly to the prestigious Hu Kaiwen ink tradition.
