This ceramic figure depicts Guanyin, the Bodhisattva of Compassion, in a serene reclining posture (Water-Moon or Royal Ease pose). Rendered in a pale, muted off white glaze with subtle tonal variations, the figure rests gently on one side, leaning an elbow against a rectangular block while cradling a stylized scroll in hand. Guanyin’s expression is peaceful and contemplative, featuring downcast eyes, a fine nose, and a delicate bindi (urna) mark on the forehead, framed by neatly parted hair adorned with an ornate beaded crown and a cowl draped gracefully over the shoulders. Fluid, deeply carved folds outline the flowing robes that wrap around the lower body, revealing bare feet. The back of the figure displays an impressed artisan mark and gourd-shaped seal, while the unglazed underside reveals a hollow interior surrounded by natural terracotta-toned ceramic material.
