This square, deep-vermilion cinnabar color lacquer box features intricate, multi-layered carvings that showcase traditional Chinese craftsmanship. The lid is dominated by a high-relief scene of chrysanthemums and jagged rockery, set against a fine, geometric "air" diaper pattern that gives the composition a sense of depth. The sides of the box are equally ornate, decorated with continuous scrollwork and floral motifs carved into the thick lacquer. When opened, the interior reveals a stark, polished black lacquer finish, providing a dramatic contrast to the rich, earthy red of the exterior.
