Vintage Gourd Shape Copper Red Underglaze Floral Graphic Porcelain Vase GB590S
This double-gourd porcelain vase features a striking underglaze copper-red decoration against a crisp white ground. The vessel is divided into two bulbous sections, both meticulously hand-painted with scrolling lotus blooms and elegant, intertwining foliated vines. A horizontal six-character mark, reading “Da Ming Xuan De Nian Zhi” (Made during the Xuande Reign of the Great Ming), is positioned across the upper bulb, suggesting a style inspired by early 15th-century imperial ceramics.
The decorative program is organized into distinct registers: a delicate geometric diaper pattern encircles the rim and the narrow "waist," while a band of upright lappets anchors the base and accents the transition between the two gourd sections. The copper-red pigment exhibits a deep, brownish-maroon hue with characteristic "heaping and piling" effects and subtle greenish "tea-dust" oxidation spots, adding a sense of textured antiquity to the surface. The unglazed, flat base reveals a pale, buff-colored stoneware body, consistent with traditional Chinese kiln production techniques intended to showcase both auspicious symbolism and classical form.
