The body is blanketed in an intricate, continuous scrollwork pattern on a reddish-maroon background, punctuated by multicolored blossoms and stylized, yellow taotie or beast-mask motifs on the chest and haunches. The elaborate design flows elegantly over the contour of its upright tail and rounded hindquarters, mirroring the same ornamentation across both sides of its proud, alert stance. A close-up of the head reveals the un-enameled bronze finish of the face and halter, displaying a greenish verdigris patina along the crevices of the mane and ears that emphasizes its antique character. Finally, a view of the underside demonstrates that the intricate floral scrollwork, enameled pattern, and dark, un-enameled hooves extend fully across the entire base of the sculpture.
