Molded in the distinctive shape of a folding hand fan, this vintage porcelain trinket box features a finely detailed polychrome and gilt overglaze decoration depicting a European-style sailing ship navigating stylized waves. The lid’s central scene showcases a multi-masted merchant vessel adorned with flags and accompanied by figures on deck, set against a white ground bordered by vibrant floral motifs and an intricate geometric trellis pattern in shades of teal, purple, and gold. The sloping sides of both the cover and the base continue the rich diaper and floral trellis design, accented with molded peony blossoms that enhance its sculptural form. Finished with a smooth glazed interior, the box separates cleanly into two fitted sections, blending maritime trade iconography with traditional East Asian decorative arts.
